Electrophoretic coating(E-Coating), also known as E-coating or electrodeposition coating, is an advanced surface finishing process that applies a uniform protective paint layer to metal components through an electrical deposition process. It is widely used in automotive parts, industrial equipment, electronics, hardware, and precision metal manufacturing because of its excellent corrosion resistance and consistent coverage.

How Electrophoretic Coating Works

The E-coating process uses electrical current to move charged paint particles through a liquid coating bath and deposit them onto a metal workpiece.

The typical process includes:

1. Surface Preparation
   • Parts are cleaned to remove oil, grease, rust, and contaminants.
   • Phosphating or other chemical treatments improve coating adhesion and corrosion resistance.
2. Electrophoretic Deposition
   • The metal part is immersed in a tank containing water-based paint particles.
   • An electric current is applied between the part and electrodes.
   • Charged coating particles migrate and evenly cover the surface.
3. Rinsing
   • Excess paint is removed while retaining the deposited coating layer.
4. Curing
   • The coated parts are heated in an oven to create a durable, cross-linked protective film.
